All About Us

Maggie Woo and Bryan Kinshella are both born and raised in British Columbia, Canada. We currently reside in Ladner, close to Vancouver, where we try to get our kayaks wet in the Fraser River as much as possible.
We both love to travel and have trekked up to Everest Base Camp in Nepal, summited the tallest mountain in Africa, Mt. Kilimonjaro, visited the awesome Mayan ruins of Tikal in Guatemala, rode elephants in Thailand and more. On a recent trip last year in 2009 crossing Africa covering from Cairo, Egypt to Cape Town, South Africa, we realized that while we have explored our world, we have neglected our backyard, beautiful B.C. and thus the first seeds of kayaking to Alaska was born.
During the Africa trip, we were able volunteer with a couple organizations including the Hope Meal Plan in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and the Back to School Foundation in Monkey Bay, Malawi where we gained a real appreciation and respect for social justice endeavors to open up opportunities that we here in Canada often take for granted.
Maggie just graduated with the Bachelors of Arts, in anthropology and psychology and is crazy enough to sign up for another two years to do her Masters in Medical Anthropology, working with Food and Health in Africa. She spent 8 months in Africa last year in 2009, with 3 months on an intensive university program about East Africa then completed the classic cross-Africa journey covering Cairo to Cape Town with Bryan. In addition to being positively infected with the travel bug, Maggie likes to get out and go hiking (and snowshoeing in the winter) in the beautiful mountains around Vancouver, explore Burns Bog, chill out at Wreck Beach, meditating and curling up with a good book. Her passions in life include jumping off waterfalls and riding down dunes.

Bryan is currently completing an Electricians Apprenticeship and his interests include alternate sources of power, such as solar or wind. He lives a busy life split between giving Maggie attention, the great outdoors, school and work. Bryan loves snowboarding, snowshoeing, hiking, camping and of-course, kayaking whenever possible. Bryan is also addicted to traveling and already dreaming of the next trip.
